Alcamo is known as ;City of wine’ and it was the birth-place of the poet Ciullo d’Alcamo (XIII century), author of the famous poem “Rosa
fresca aulentissima" which is one of the most ancient documents of Italian literature.
In the historic centre you can admire the fourteenth century Conti di Modica castle, the noble historic buildings, the churches rich in works of
art (the sculptures by Gagini, the stuccoes by Serpotta, the paintings by Borremans).
Near there is Mount Bonifato. On the summit, there is the Nature reserve Bosco d'Alcamo and the ruins of Ventimiglia castle.
Here, one admire the splendid Gulf of Castellammare from Punta Raisi to the headland of Capo San Vito.
Alcamo is famous for the Bianco d’Alcamo wine. It is light yellow in colour with green hues , has a dry fresh taste with a fruity bouquet, a
delicate smell and an alcoholic grade between 11,5° and 13,5°. Alcamo is, also, famous for the
“purceddu”, a kind of melon.
